History

Welcome to the England V Scotland football tournament, so then, what is it all about?

Well in 2007 following friendly banter between Dundee and Sunderland football fans over the internet the idea of playing football for charity was brought up.

Paul Wallace from England had lost his Dad to Lung cancer in 2005 and had set up a breath of life fund in his dad’s memory and thought this to be a great idea. Graeme Brymer from Scotland also has a great passion to raise funds for various charities.

The idea was talked about until it was confirmed that each country would host the event every other year with all funds split 50-50 between the two parties and then distributed to the various charities.

2007 saw the first match which took the shape of a 5aside football tournament, this was held at Crowtree leisure centre, Sunderland. The winning team came from Sheffield and won the trophy for England in style. The Scotland team also included for Iain McDonald a former Dundee player. The night time venue was held at the Quayside Exchange, Sunderland and we had the pleasure of the company of Sunderland FA cup winning Captain Bobby Kerr, Former Sunderland and Dundee star John Macphail and former Sunderland legend Eric Gates. The guys kindly gave out medals to the players after the buffet and also helped out pulling raffle tickets and with the auction. The event was a massive success with £2250 raised for charity.

2008 was at a different level, Graeme from Scotland raised the game, it was decided that we’d like to make it a full 90 minutes 11v11. Dens, Dundee’s football ground was secured and the game was on! The night time party was also hosted at Dens too, once again there were lots of raffle, and auction prizes and the night was another great success. The whole day was fantastic and once again it all came down to the hard work from many individuals and a massive thanks has to be expressed to Dundee FC for making this whole thing possible.

This year we managed to raise a whopping £3520, thanks to everyone involved and here’s looking forward to 2009.
